As a wedding photographer, I know and can see how much planning couples put into their wedding day. As a husband, I know first-hand what it takes to organise such a big event too and that wasn’t during a pandemic.
Getting married can be stressful at the best of times but imagine changing your plans, your venue, reducing your guest list to 30 people and not being allowed to have an evening party thanks to lockdown. Determined to go ahead, Charlie and Sarah decided to make the most out of the situation for their King Street Townhouse wedding and continue with their plans before the full release of lockdown restrictions with just a few tweaks. The main change being that the couple had to go for a micro wedding with a reduced guest list and a shortened wedding day. Other than that, there was nothing “micro” about the occasion which was a huge celebration, full of laughter and character and colour.
Historic Building in the Heart of the City
King Street Townhouse offers an idyllic backdrop all year round for wedding photography. The Grade II listed building was originally built over 140 years ago and offers versatile spaces and impressive views which is the perfect venue for any couples who want to book it for their wedding day. Charlie and Sarah took advantage of this boutique hotel and chose to hold their entire wedding day from ceremony to reception there.
The ceremony took place in the venue’s ‘Small Hub’ which is an atmospheric space with wooden flooring and intimate lighting – ideal for the couple’s micro wedding and perfect for some impactful wedding photographs.
Manchester City Centre Wedding
I love shooting city centre weddings. They are often full of surprises ( Read about when we came across the Manchester Naked Bike Ride). You are never more than a short walk from an iconic building that you can use for your wedding photographs. During the drinks reception, the happy couple and I went for a breath of fresh air and took a tour around the city for some relaxed wedding photographs. We stopped by the Manchester Town Hall, making the most of the building’s stone arches and strolled by the Central Library on Saint Peter’s Square. The Manchester city centre was buzzing with weekend shoppers and people enjoying a drink on terraces. Charlie and Sarah got a round of applause and cheers and they passed by people on the street. I love capturing these moments using my documentary style of wedding photography. The wedding photographs gain a great energy and authenticity which I’m proud to share with couples.
Impressive Views of Manchester
Charlie and Sarah chose the King Street Townhouse’s rooftop terrace on the sixth floor as the place for their wedding breakfast. It was a fabulous choice because, here, guests enjoyed a drink whilst soaking up the sunshine and the extensive and amazing views of Manchester around them. It was the perfect opportunity for me to use the space for portrait photos of the happy couple as well as some group photos with the Manchester Town Hall as a backdrop.
Sarah and Charlie also added their own stamp to the day by celebrating their wedding with some rainbow coloured smoke grenades, setting them off and holding them up high in a line with some of their close friends. They are normally not allowed in city centres or public places but can be let off on private properties such as the King Street Townhouse’s rooftop. I’m glad because it was such a colourful and joyful addition to the event.
Cutting of the Cake
One of the things that caught my eye when I entered the wedding breakfast room was the cake. Charlie and Sarah opted to have a colourful wedding cake with a lot of green to remind them of their love for the countryside and a rainbow (because why not!). The cake also featured their beloved pets Larry the dog and Norman the cat who couldn’t be there to celebrate the day.
As I say, there was nothing “micro” about the occasion because Charlie and Sarah made the most of their special day, packing it with personality. It was so uplifting for me and everyone involved to be getting back to some sort of normalcy with this fabulous couple’s celebration.
